A multifaceted artist whose work is in a surprising variety of styles and techniques.

His work feels spontaneous and alive, and has been described as “uncontained.”

ABOUT Felis, 1943 - 2019

Originally from Fort Madison, Iowa, Felis later settled in Seattle, Washington.

He graduated in 1964 first in his class from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City.

He served in the U.S. Army 1964-1967, completed a tour of duty in Vietnam, and was on the six member Combat Art Team (CAT I).  

He worked at The Seattle Times in the Art Services Department for almost 30 years until 2001, where he did graphic design and promotional work.

Felis pursued his fine art — which he would do before work, at lunchtime, after work, weekends, vacations…. Always drawing and painting, usually outdoors.  He entered competitions, he sold with galleries, he put on his own shows, he published two calendars of his Green Lake art.
